Custom LASIK in New York
LASIK has been around for over a decade, however, the wavefront guided ZYOPTIX sets a new standard in vision correction. The unparalleled technology and unprecedented clinical results of Zyoptix should provide confidence to individuals who may have been undecided about getting vision correction. Wavefront technology measures even minor distortions in the eye beyond the typical measurements of vision. This enables skilled surgeons such as Dr. Harry Koster to more accurately treat those distortions.
For many patients, the traditional LASIK treatment applied by Bausch & Lomb's Planoscan treatment system will provide excellent vision. One type of treatment is not necessarily right for everyone, however. Each person's eye is as unique as their own fingerprint, with its own special shape and complex characteristics. In some instances, small imperfections in the shape of the eye can cause a scattering of light, which can contribute to vision impairment and creates diffficult-to-pinpoint prescriptions. This scattering of light forms distinct patterns within the eye know as aberrations. The innovative design of the Zyoptix personalized laser vision correction systems allows skilled LASIK eye surgeons such as Dr. Koster to measure these aberrations, then plan a treatment that exactly matches the eye's individual vision errors.
The Zyoptix systems maps up to 9,600 data points, giving Dr. Koster an extremely precise, three-dimensional picture of the cornea's shape and vision characteristics. Dr. Koster can then program the laser based on those data points and provide a unique treatment for each eye. The Zyoptix system also utilizes flying spot laser technologies. Instead of a single broad laser beam contacting the eye, multiple narrow beams contact the eye at lightning speed. This technology results in more blended, smooth results, greatly reducing poor night vision, glare and halos.
Who Is A Candidate?
The Zyoptix customized LASIK system is particularly appropriate for patients with naturally large pupils under dim light settings, patients with problems driving at night or who have pre-existing vision difficulties, or patients with pre-existing higher order aberrations (as identified during the patient's pre-operative evaluation). Zyoptix treatment is also an option for patients with nearsightedness and/or astigmatism if their prescription is within the treatment range. NY LASER GROUP's standard pre-surgical LASIK evaluation assesses every patient to determine if Zyoptix customized LASIK would be an appropriate treatment.
You may be a good candidate for Zyoptix if you:
- Feel that glasses/contact lenses are a nuisance in your job, sporting activities or personal life
- Suffer from not seeing well in certain circumstances, such as driving at night
- Have been told that your pupils are too big for standard treatment
- Need vision correction and have a prescription range of up to -12.00 dioptres sphere
- Have stable vision and healthy eyes (other than refractive error)
- Have good general health and are not taking medication that affects the healing process
- Are older than 18
Why is Zyoptix better?
In the US Clinical Trials that Bausch & Lomb conducted for the FDA, the data demonstrated that six months after Zyoptix customized LASIK surgery:
- 91.5% of patients had uncorrected vision of 20/20 or better;
- 99.4% of patients had uncorrected vision of 20/40 or better;
- 99.0% of subjects reported they were moderately or highly satisfied with their results; and
- 99.7% indicated improvement in quality of vision, of which more than 70% reported improvement in night vision while driving.
Furthermore, none of the patients in the clinical trial reported dissatisfaction with their vision after surgery.
