At NY Vision Group we offer LASIK, the most advanced vision correction procedure available, in the convenience of our Manhattan office located at 37 Murray Street. We also offer other refractive alternatives for patients for whom LASIK is not an option. Dr. Harry Koster is one of the most experienced LASIK surgeons in New York City -- with over 20 years of refractive experience--and he specializes in premium LASIK surgery.
LASIK (Laser-Assisted-In-Situ-Keratomileusis) was first performed in the US in 1991 and was formally approved by the FDA in 1998. Since then it has become the most popular type of refractive surgery in the United States. In fact it is the world's most popular elective procedure with more than 28 million procedures performed worldwide.
LASIK is a highly effective outpatient procedure that is suitable for most low, moderate and higher prescriptions. Hundreds of professional athletes have had the procedure, from Dorothy Hamil to Tiki Barber, from Brian Bobcock to Ivan Lendl. But not only professional athletes benefit from LASIK. Pilots, firefighters, policeman and anyone who wants increased freedom from contact lenses or glasses benefit from LASIK.
LASIK is a two-step process in which first a hinged flap is created on the front surface of the eye (the cornea) and lifted back. Then a cool beam of light from an excimer laser reshapes the the cornea, correcting the refractive error of a patient and the flap is replaced. The common refractive errors that LASIK can treat include nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia) and astigmatism.
At NY Vision Group we utilize the WaveLight® EX 500 Laser, the most technologically advanced vision correction laser available in the United States to reshape the cornea. We are proud to be the first practice in Manhattan to offer this technology, which allows us to create a customized treatment for each patient. The WaveLight® EX 500 laser is also the safest, fastest and most accurate laser available in the U.S. We offer patients the choice of either the Moria SBK keratome, which creates the thinnest mechanically-created flaps available, or Z-LASIK, which creates a flap with a FEMTO LDV laser.
For patients needing vision correction for whom LASIK is not an option, we also offer LASIK alternatives, such as Custom LASIK, PRK & Epi-LASIK, LASEK, Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE), and premium lens implants, such as the ReSTOR, Tecnis, Crystalens and Toric Implants. Dr. Harry Koster is one of the most qualified LASIK surgeons in New York with over 20 years of refractive and corneal experience. He has performed over 25,000 refractive and corneal procedures and is dedicated to improving his patients’ vision.
If you are tired of your contact lenses or glasses and seeking improved vision, please call to schedule a consultation.
