Dr. Harry Koster is a board-certified ophthalmologist, specially trained in cornea and external diseases of the eye. He is a highly experienced refractive surgeon who has performed over 25,000 LASIK and cataract procedures for patients in the New York City area. In addition to performing thousands of laser vision correction procedures, Dr. Koster was one of the first New York eye surgeons to utilize new multifocal lens technologies such as the PanOptix, Vivity, Tecnis Symfony, and ReSTOR lenses. In addition, Dr. Koster has been named by his peers as a New York Super Doctor for the tenth year in a row, making him a Hall of Fame Super Doctor as described in the May 9, 2021, New York Times Magazine special supplement. Dr. Koster has also been named a Castle Connolly Top Doctor for the past seven years in a row, commencing in 2015.

After receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree in Biochemistry at Columbia College, he received his medical degree from Southwestern Medical School, Texas. Dr. Koster then returned to Manhattan and interned at New York Hospital/Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital. He completed his ophthalmic residency training at New York Eye and Ear, the nation’s first eye specialty hospital, located in the heart of New York City. His interest in refractive surgery and corneal topography led him before LASIK was even FDA-approved in the United States, to pursue a prestigious fellowship in refractive surgery in Hotel-Dieu, Paris, one of the leading eye hospitals in France. Following his fellowship in Paris, Dr. Koster completed another refractive surgery fellowship at Harvard Medical School where he continued to investigate surgical therapies for refractive errors.

Dr. Koster, a Swiss-American citizen, comes from a long tradition of skilled physicians. His grandfather, Harry Koster, was a pioneering general surgeon in Brooklyn 70 years ago, performing many innovative surgical techniques, often with limited anesthesia. Dr. Koster’s father, Robert Koster, is one of the preeminent internists in Dallas, TX. Consequently, Dr. Koster developed a deep respect for the field of medicine and for ethical patient care from an early age. He prides himself on carrying on the family tradition of excellence in medicine and in being a technically superior surgeon. Dr. Koster, along with all the staff and doctors at NY Vision Group, is dedicated to helping patients realize their best vision to help them lead healthy, fulfilling lives.

Dr. Koster is currently an assistant clinical professor at New York Eye and Ear and the Surgeon Director of Cataract Surgery at SUNY College of Optometry. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology, a member of the Academy of Ophthalmology and a fellow of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. He has been a member of the Medical Scientific Advisory Board of the New York Eye Bank for over 10 years. Dr. Koster is fluent in both French and Spanish. He has been in private practice in New York for over 20 years. He is an avid runner, having completed over ten NYC marathons, and lives in downtown Manhattan with his wife and two children.

Dr. Koster and NY Vision Group are happy to announce that they are the lead sponsor for NY Vision Group-Fuoriclass Racing, a New York-based amateur cycling sub-team chartered through the Century Road Club Association (CRCA). The current roster of nine racers can be found most weekdays training in Central Park early in the morning.
