There are many reasons to choose our practice. Not only is Dr. Koster a premier eye surgeon, he and the entire staff at NY Vision Group are dedicated to helping patients achieve their vision goals and live healthier, happier lives. Whether you need Laser Vision Correction, a glaucoma screening or a contact lens fitting, we will find the right vision solution for you. Below are just a few of the reasons to choose us.
Dr. Harry Koster is a board-certified ophthalmologist. He completed his ophthalmic residency training at New York Eye and Ear Infirmary, the nation’s oldest eye hospital, and specialized in refractive and cornea surgery there. Indeed, even before LASIK was FDA-approved in the U.S., he pursued a prestigious fellowship in refractive surgery in Hotel-Dieu, the premier eye hospital in France. Following his fellowship in Paris, Dr. Koster completed another refractive and corneal fellowship at Harvard Medical School where he continued to investigate surgical therapies for refractive errors. He has continued to be at the forefront of exploring refractive and corneal techniques since then and is one of the best trained corneal and refractive surgeons in New York City.
Dr. Koster requires that all the doctors at NY Vision Group be highly trained in cornea and refractive eye care as well as general eye health. Many of the optometrists who work in the practice are graduates of the SUNY College of Optometry, where Dr. Koster is himself an instructor, ensuring that his optometrists are well trained. Dr. Koster also frequently lectures other eye doctors on advanced refractive techniques.
Dr. Koster is highly experienced in cornea and refractive surgeries. He has been in practice for over 20 years and has performed over 10,000 laser vision procedures. Additionally, for lens procedures involving multifocal lens technology, few surgeons have performed close to the number of multifocal related procedures that he has. His proficiency is not only geared toward superior short-term results, his meticulous surgical techniques are also aimed at avoiding potential longer term complications such as capsular lens opacification (secondary cataracts) and retinal problems. As a corneal and refractive specialist, he can customize each patient’s treatment plan to achieve the best possible results.
Dr. Koster and NY Vision Group utilize the latest technological advances to provide patients with the best available care, not only with respect to innovative surgical techniques and technologies, but also with respect to state-of-the art testing modalities for use during a patient’s regular office check-up.
For Laser Vision Correction procedures, Dr. Koster uses the most advanced FDA tested and approved laser technology, including the latest custom corneal treatments that incorporate an infrared eye tracking system and “Wave-Front” diagnostics to track and treat the smallest of visual errors, high order aberrations. For cataract and multifocal procedures, he utilizes the most up-to-date lens technology, such as the ReSTOR multifocal implants, to help patients achieve a broad range of vision. Finally, in the office, Dr. Koster and his staff utilize the latest imaging testing technologies available. For example, to screen for glaucoma, we use the scanning laser polarimetry (GDX), the optical coherence tomography (OCT III), and confocal scanning laser ophthalmoscopy (HRT II) to map the eye's optic nerve and internal structures.
Dr. Koster is currently an assistant clinical professor at New York Eye and Ear Infirmary and the Medical Director of the Ophthalmology Department at Wyckoff Heights Hospital. He performs surgery at both of these respected institutions. He is also the Surgeon Director of Cataract and Refractive Surgery at the SUNY College of Optometry and performs all his LASIK procedures at the state-of-the-art laser center located in this teaching institution. He has been a member of the Medical Scientific Advisory Board of the New York Eye Bank for over ten years.
He performs the majority of ophthalmic surgeries at Mid Manhattan Surgery Center, an ambulatory surgical center which he founded with a select group of surgeons. This center is solely dedicated to eye surgery -- focusing entirely on state-of-the-art corneal procedures and technologies -- to help ensure the best possible outcomes. In Manhattan there are very few of these exclusive surgical centers.
Dr. Koster is also a diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology, a member of the Academy of Ophthalmology and a fellow of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
Dr. Harry Koster has been successfully performing corneal and refractive surgery for over 20 years. His patients express an extremely high rate of satisfaction and are our biggest source of new patient referrals.
At NY Vision Group we pride ourselves on putting the patient first. Dr. Koster, the other doctors and all of the staff at NY Vision Group are dedicated to providing the best possible eye care to our patients, helping them achieve the highest quality of vision available to them. We are committed to understanding each patient’s health concerns, lifestyle needs and vision goals in order that we can help each patient realize those goals and lead a healthier, more fulfilling lifestyle.
An important part of our mission is patient education. We want to ensure that each patient understands his or her particular eye condition, the treatment options available, and the potential outcomes, including both the benefits and the risks of any procedure. We also believe that educating patients about the ways in which they can help themselves achieve their vision goals (such as following pre-operative and post-operative instructions and generally living a healthier lifestyle) is a critical part of our mission. We strive to both answer our patients questions in the office and to provide further resources (such as the Patient Education portion of our website) for patients before and after they leave the office. We truly believe that the better informed the patient is, the better the doctor-patient relationship is, and ultimately the better the outcomes and care will be.
